Sweetpea Preschool opened its doors in 1998. At the time we were based in rented premises in Ballyowen and in 2000 we moved to our current premises 2 Liffey Valley Drive, Lucan. Over the years we have provided support, advice and care to many families, and over a thousand children have come through our doors. In 2010 due to the economic downturn Sweetpea ended its service for full day care and reinvented itself as a purpose built preschool offering a mixture of classes from 2 years to 6 year old’s.
The principle and founder of the school is Loretta McDonagh. She is and has always been passionate about the care and service that children and their families receive. Loretta works with her team of staff making sure that every child is welcome, included and has access to an environment that stimulates, motivates and inspires new learning opportunities for its students. We practice a play based pedagogy that assures the children are at the centre of all our policies and procedures.
Over the years Loretta has continued to reinvest in the service which includes an interactive outdoor area, and a sensory room. This year the school went through extensive renovation making better use of the classrooms and providing better access for children of all abilities.
A vital part of our success is the continued partnership with parents that goes beyond the class room door. We have supported parents in gaining access to other supports around their child while working with parents in every step of the way in their children’s learning and development.
